Weekender Bags That Don't Look Like Gym Bags

Nick was out of town on a business trip for a couple of days but before he left, he tasked me to look for a new weekender bag for him. His one stipulation was that "it not look like a gym bag" because our current bag for overnight trips is an embarrassing blue vinyl duffel bag. I know I never do enough manly posts here, so instead of bookmarking a bunch of bags I decided to put my favorite finds in a composite that I could show to Nick later (some within budget and some not so much). In the cases of large bags and totes, I often prefer the look of masculine bags myself; I'm especially drawn to soft-looking warm brown leathers, contrasting handles, bold white + color stripes, and brass hardware.

What are other features that savvy guys look for in weekender bags?

I personally like duffels/weekender bags to have an outside ventilated mesh pocket or equivalent for shoes etc. It's also nice if there is a wet clothes compartment (usually lined with some waterproof material). As for the rest, it doesn't really matter, but I like the flexibility of load-out duffels (one big compartment).

Some classic-feeling options:
MULHOLLAND BROTHERS SAFARI WEEKEND BAG
GHURKA THE KILBURN RS
MULHOLLAND BROTHERS SAFARI WEEKEND BAG
VICTORINOX CH-97™ CLIMBER CARRY-ON DUFFEL

Outdoorsy/Sporty:
The North Face Base Camp Duffel - Medium
Dakine Wet/Dry Duffel
Dakine EQ Medium
Eagle Creek No Matter What Medium

This reminds me, I'd love a post on cute (affordable?) luggage, if it's something you are thinking about. I haven't bought any luggage in the past 5 years because I haven't found anything that looks recent that also rolls and isn't over $200.

Great selection! Any chance you could do this same post, but for women who are looking for slightly more feminine bags? I'm always looking for a good weekender and can never seem to find one....

@Mlle T, @Anonymous: Wow, did not realize this was a chronic problem. I'll look into it and do a ladies version sometime. Thanks for the suggestions!
